Extra-Curricular Activities

Autumn Term 2017

Music Tuition:

The Music Department is pleased to be able to offer a wide range of instrumental tuition to students.  Peripatetic music teachers visit once a week to teach woodwind (flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, bassoon), brass (trumpet, cornet, tenor horn, french horn, euphonium, trombone, tuba), upper strings (violin, viola), lower strings (cello, double bass), percussion (drum kit), guitar (acoustic, electric bass) and piano.  Lessons are generally individual 20 minute sessions and are organised on a rotating timetable as much as possible, so that students do not miss the same class lesson each week.  If your child is interested in learning an instrument while they are at Neale-Wade, please contact Mrs Furlong in the Music Department (hfurlong@neale-wade.org) for further information about our instrumental provision and details of lesson fees and payment options.

In terms of extra-curricular music, we have brass, woodwind and string ensembles which rehearse during tutor time once a week.  We also have a concert band and an orchestra which rehearse after school on alternating weeks.  As the Academy subsidises the cost of lessons, there is an expectation that all instrumental students (with the exception of beginners) take part in at least one extra-curricular music ensemble.  All students, irrespective of musical ability, are welcome to join the choir.

The Music Department puts on two concerts a year, one at Christmas and one in the Summer Term.  We also take a group of instrumentalists and singers carol singing towards the end of the Autumn Term, and compete in the annual Peterborough Music Festival in the Spring Term.
