Equipment for Academy:

Students must bring the following equipment to school every day:

  • Pen, ruler, pencil, eraser
  • Planner and exercise books
  • Completed homework

In some subjects it may be necessary to bring equipment relevant to the lesson e.g. steel toe capped boots in Construction & aprons in Catering.  Students will be advised on the nature of the additional equipment needed.

Other Uniform Considerations:
  • The wearing of jewellery is NOT permitted except for one pair of studs in earlobes.  Other visible facial or body studs are not permitted.
  • The Academy will determine the amount and type of make-up that qualifies as discreet.  In Year 10 and 11 a discreet amount of make-up is allowed.  In Years 7, 8 and 9 the discreet use of cover up make-up only is permitted, no other make-up is permitted.  Only clear nail varnish is permitted.
  • Hair should be of natural colour and cut in a neat style. Extremes of hair fashion (for example hair-cuts shorter than a grade 2 and tram lines or other designs shaved into the hair) are not permitted.
  • Hair spray should NOT be used, as this can be dangerous in laboratories and workshops.
  • Outdoor coats must be plain with a minimum of logos, transfers or other decorations.
  • The Academy will let students know when the summer uniform rule is in force. This will be dependent upon the weather, but will normally begin early in the summer term.

Please Note:  For PE, students will be expected to bring the appropriate uniform to all lessons irrespective of whether they are taking part practically. If students are not able to join in with the activities they will be given other tasks to assist in the lesson. This is in order to fulfil National Curriculum requirements on officiating, coaching and choreographing.

All students will be taking Football as a curricular activity. It is compulsory for students to wear shin pads for this activity, however we are unable to provide protective equipment for all students and recommend students purchase their own. Please contact the PE department if you have any queries or experience any difficulties.

Personal Possessions:

The Academy reserves the right to confiscate inappropriate items, or items such as mobile phones that are being used inappropriately, and return these to parents as appropriate.

High value items such as jewellery, cameras, radios, MP3 players (including iPods), tape recorders, walkietalkies (and all other transmitting equipment), expensive pens, expensive mobile phones and large amounts of cash; must not be brought into the Academy under any circumstances. Such items are not needed in the Academy and the Academy will not accept liability, financial or otherwise, for the loss or theft of such items.

The Academy recognises that many students need to carry a mobile phone for safety reasons. Mobile phones brought into the Academy for this purpose do not need to be expensive and should be one of the many relatively inexpensive standard models that are now readily available. Mobile phones must be stored securely out of sight, switched off and not used (without permission) in Academy grounds.

Students must not leave any items of value unattended that are actually needed whilst in the Academy, for example small amounts of cash, watches and standard mobile phones. Students must hand in all such items to their teacher for safe keeping (for example at the start of a P.E. lesson). The Academy will not accept liability, financial or otherwise, for the loss or theft of any such items left unattended.
