Transition

The Year 6 to secondary school transition involves students moving from their primary school to a new secondary school, which can be a significant step in their education. This is often an exciting time for children and marks a new phase in their lives. Children recognise it as part of growing up and are aware that their lives are about to change in an important way.

This transition often includes new environments, teachers, subjects, and peers, requiring students to adapt to new routines and expectations. Support from schools, parents, and the students themselves is crucial for a positive and successful transition.

Here at Neale-Wade Academy, we are very proud of our school, students and community that we serve. We are committed to ensuring your child has access to the best possible opportunities and experiences that Neale-Wade Academy can offer and that starts with their transition to us from Year 6.

This page is dedicated space for you and your children. A space where you can find all the relevant information you will need for supporting your child through this exciting time and ensuring they have a successful transition.

Dates for your diary will be published soon!

We are really looking forward to meeting all your children and our successful working partnership.

Key Aspects of the Transition

Please find below some links to websites and information that you may find useful during this important time:

Emotional and Social Adjustments

Starting a new school can be anxiety-provoking, so open communication and support from parents and teachers are vital.

Practical Preparation

This includes visiting the new school, practicing routes to and from school, learning how to read a timetable, and understanding the new school's routines.

Academic Adjustments

Students will encounter new subjects, learning styles, and expectations. It's important to help them understand the curriculum and develop new study habits.

Building Relationships

Secondary school often means meeting new people and potentially making new friends. Encouraging social interactions and peer support can help students feel more comfortable and connected.

Developing Independence

Students will be expected to take more responsibility for their learning and well-being. This includes managing time, organizing materials, and seeking help when needed.
